Are Our Differences Skin Deep?

Dr. Hazen shares the fascinating insight she gained when planning her new skincare line, including why skincare products are divided by demographics, the surprising similarity in skincare needs between young and aging skin, and why there’s fragrance in many skincare lines. It may not be what you think!

An associate professor of surgery at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Dr. Hazen has been a host of the Sirius Radio Doctor Radio’s “Plastic Surgery Show” since its inception in 2008. She runs her own practice in New York City, Alexes Hazen Plastic Surgery, where she offers a holistic approach to plastic surgery, anti-aging and wellness. Her goal is to help patients transform body and soul through the latest technology and innovation.

GUEST: BRYNN MCDOWELL

The Domestic Dietician

My guest this week is Brynn McDowell, who you might know better as the Domestic Dietitian. Bryn is a specialist in one of the most favorably researched styles of eating—the Mediterranean diet. In fact, she’s a Mediterranean diet dietitian!

Brynn has been a registered dietitian for more than 12 years and has worked in health clubs, hospitals, school districts and retirement communities helping people make healthy food choices.

GUEST: DR. CARMELA SEYMOUR

Licensed Therapist and Trauma Specialist

Depictions of women’s “Change of Life” in entertainment usually consist of jokes about hot flashes—when it’s addressed at all. In fact, not every woman gets hot flashes, and many perimenopausal symptoms are confused or overlooked by patients and doctors. In addition, the difference between perimenopause and menopause is poorly understood by most patients.

My guest this week, obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Carmela Seymour, is here to help listeners understand perimenopause and menopause, and understand their treatment options, including the controversy around hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Seymour is my colleague at Atria and has been in practice for nearly 30 years. She is my go-to doctor for all my questions about hormone therapy, including a study linking dementia to early hormone use.

Diving into Ankle Health Feet First

Best Foot Forward.

I’m talking to my own doctor on this week’s episode of Beyond the Heart: Improving YOUR Health . . . One Conversation at a Time about recovering from my recent ankle injury and how to take the best care of our feet. Because so many of my listeners walk and run for exercise, I thought it would be a great idea to have him join me on Beyond the Heart to talk all about his work.

Dr. Kennedy is the director of the Foot and Ankle Center at NYU Langone and specializes in Achilles tendon injuries, ankle instability, and ligament reconstruction.
